Hello. I didn't do much today. I woke up close to 11am. I turned on my computer, then I browsed through a few video game related websites. I talked on the phone to my Primary School friend, Benedict, for a while, then I chatted with him on MSN.
I was supposed to go and check out some JCs today, but my dad couldn't take leave, so I didn't go. Maybe tomorrow. But as it is right now, I've pretty much decided to put Communications and Media Management at Temasek Polytechnic as my first option.
It offers what I want to do in the future, and the course doesn't have much people, since it is a 11 point course, and your O level English must be within A1-B3 range. And there's an internship program which will probably be with Mediacorp, and that means I get to meet celebrities in person. Celebrities like Fiona Xie and Felicia Chin.
Man, I'm starting to think about the phone conversation I had with Yiling last night. I made a deal with her a few months ago. Basically, if we got into the same school, I'll get back together with her. So when we found out that we both got the same O level score, I guess we were both happy.
Then last night I found out that her parents want her to go to JC, and she has no intention of going to Poly at all. I guess she was assuming that I'll pick a JC as well, since I was so hell bent on getting into one in the past. Well, things change.
I'm not forcing her to follow me or anything. It's good that she is doing something she wants to do. I'm fine with that. But I really thought that she wanted us to get into the same school. I know I said that I haven't made up my mind last night, but now I have.
If she's going to JC, then good for her. But I'm still going to take the course that interests me in Poly. I'm sorry. I can't change the entire course of my life just like that. Damn. Yiling, if you're reading this, please call me tonight. We really need to talk about this.
In the afternoon, I started playing Xbox to stop myself from thinking too much. I played the entire Mirror's Edge from start to finish in 2 hours 54 minutes. I collected every single hidden bag in the game and I got an 80 point Achievement for that.
Now that I've already got the "Test of Faith" Achievement, which requires you to complete the game without firing a single bullet at the enemy, I can finally use guns. And once you actually play the game with guns, you'll realise how easy it is. It doesn't even take any skill to play since you can just gun down anything that moves.
To further numb my brain, I played Ninja Gaiden 2. Next time you want to clear your mind, don't close your eyes and listen to calm music. Instead, play Ninja Gaiden 2. Slicing limbs and loping heads off is an extremely mind numbing process, and it works really well.
Then I went to fetch my cousin from his school, and after that I came back home and played Bioshock for a while, then I played a bit of Mirror's Edge again. Then I helped my parents do some house work, and I started to use my computer.
I found out some interesting facts about Slipknot. The members of Slipknot all come in different shapes and sizes, but I've always been wondering the exact stats. So I did a search and look what I found out:
-Out of all nine Slipknot members, Joey Jordinson, the drummer, is the shortest at around 1.62m. The two guitarists, Mick Thompson and Jim Root, are the tallest in the band, with Mick standing at about 1.83m, and Jim at about 2m tall.
-Joey Jordinson plays drums like a god, and he is still a pretty awesome guitarist, and he can sing back up vocals. That's like a one man band. Respect.
-The original drummer for Slipknot was Shawn Crahan. Shawn is now one of the two custom percussionists in the band.
-Shawn is also the oldest member, and the first to wear a mask on stage.
-
Joey called the fans 'Maggots' because when he would look out into the crowd during a concert, to him it looked like the fans were 'feeding off the music'.
-Slipknot's bassist, Paul Grey, is half Black. This one really surprised me.
-The first song the band wrote from scratch is "Spit It Out". Previous songs were all already written before Slipknot played them.
-Jim is the only member of the band who paints his fingernails black, so that they match the colours of his mask.
-Mick is a cat lover, and he claims that he is much more of a night person.
-Slipknot's vocalist, Corey Taylor, claims to have overdosed on Cocaine twice as a teenager.
-The numbers "515", which is the title of the first track on their Iowa album, represents the area code the members lived in, in their town.
-Slipknot's sampler/keyboardist, Craig Jones, originally joined the band as a guitarist, until Jim Root took over two years later in 1999.
-Jim has dyed his almost every main colour except green.I seriously didn't know any of that. So there you have it, a bunch of facts about an awesome band. Slipknot actually started out in 1997, but it wasn't until Corey joined the band that they really started to take off.
By the time the Iowa album was out, Slipknot was already the metal band with the most hardcore loyal fan base. Now, I just wish Slipknot will come back to Singapore. It happened once, so it can happen again. I'll go to their concert for sure.
Some CES 2009 news:-A 2K Games executive is unhappy with the large amounts of crappy casual Wii games flooding the market. About time some one spoke up about it.
-A new Final Fantasy XIII character has been revealed. He is called Sazh Zalzroy, he loves the colour green, he uses dual pistols, he loves Chocobos, and he's Black. The only other memorable character in the Final Fantasy series is Beret of Final Fantasy VII, but he was introduced way back in 1997. Picture below:
-The Playstation 2 has reached the 50 million consoles sold mark in North America, and it's not dying off any time soon. Even now, nine years after its launch, and years after the original Xbox and the Gamecube have died off, the PS2 is still going strong. In fact, Sony has revealed PS2 exclusive games to be released at dates up to 2011.
-Toy making company Mattel has created a toy which allows you to make a ball float using just your mind. It's called the MindFlex. You put on a brainwave detecting head band, and you concentrate hard enough to move the ball. Pictures below:

-A new video game related law is being appealed in the USA. If it is accepted, cigarette box style warnings will appear on video game boxes. For example, instead of just having a "Mature" sticker on the game box, there will be both a sticker and a label that says something like "WARNING: Excessive exposure to violent video games and other violent media has been linked to aggressive behavior"on it. That's ridiculous.
-It is rumoured that a major online Wii game will be ditching the annoyingly long Friend Codes. Pure genius. Every Wii game should ditch the Friend Codes.
-Red Alert 3 Ultimate Edition coming soon to PS3. It features a whole lot of extra stuff, like behind the scene videos, and a few new maps and units.
-The Wii Rock Band online store has finally launched. More tracks will be released over the next couple of weeks to allow the Wii to catch up with other consoles. Each track will cost US$2. Wow, welcome to the year 2007, Wii.
-A new game, titled AionGuard, has been announced for the PS3 and Xbox 360. Details are shallow now, but it is said to be an open world, God of War style game, with Lord of the Rings style mythical creatures. It is the cover story of this month's Edge magazine issue. Picture below:
-Guitar Hero Metallica has been confirmed for a March 29th 2009 release. Guitar Hero gods rejoice. Novice Guitar Heroes, stay the hell away. It's Metallica man, not All American Rejects or something. In case you still don't understand me, GH Metallica is going to be freakin hard.
-Fable 2's Knothole Island expansion pack is now available for purchase on Xbox Live. Those who bought the limited edition of Fable 2 got Halo related goodies, like Spartan [Master Chief] armour and an the Energy Sword. With the expansion pack, everyone can now get a gun in Fable 2 that looks and fires exactly like Halo's Assault Rifle. Sweet. Picture below:

Ok, going to watch Harold and Kumar: Escape from Guantanamo Bay for like the 6th time. I love the movie. Ok, ending off, see you tomorrow.
