Hello.
200th post today!! Time flies. I feel like it was just last week that I was typing my 100th post, and a few days ago that I was typing my 150th. And the blog is barely a year old!! I am a dedicated blogger :D
Anyways, since today is the 200th post, and also since I actually managed to watch Watchmen today, I have decided to do something special. Today is the start of Watchmen week here on this blog.
From today until Friday, I'll be focusing on the Watchmen movie, what I like about it, what I didn't like, and a bunch of other stuff. By the end of these five posts, you'll probably know whether to watch it or not.
The topic for today is:

So I watched the Watchmen movie today. And guess what? The video review I put up a few posts ago? The one that seemed really exaggerated?
The reviewer was right.
Watchmen
is freakin awesome. Watchmen
is one of my top three films of all times. I too would give Watchmen a score of whatever, out of what ever.
However, Watchmen isn't perfect. Nothing ever is. It's just great because the amount of good things outweigh the bad stuff by a whole lot. While there is a lot to like in Watchmen, today I'm going to be talking about
5 things I like about the movie.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
THE FILMING
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The movie is directed by Zack Snyder, the guy behind 300. When I first saw the trailers of the film, I was a little worried about the slow motion scenes. There were four of them within the trailer alone. I didn't want there to be too many of these.
In the actual movie, while there are quite a few of these scenes, they are all done perfectly, and they don't seem out of place. During these scenes, you can really see how realistic the special effects are, and also how amazingly well the fight choreography is.
The movie is shot incredibly well. At almost every scene, the angle of the camera is just right, making the movie look even more amazing. Music comes in at the right points of time, helping to further portray the emotions going on at that scene.
The way the entire story is narrated throughout the movie is also good. It mostly stays true to the comic. The lines are identical, if not exactly the same as the ones that appear in the comic books. If you've read the comics as much as I have, you will know exactly what the character is about to say next.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
THE ACTING
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
While some of them are better than the others, all the main actors in Watchmen did their job well. The film version of Rorschach is acted out amazingly well. From the way he walks, to the way he talks, and the way he fights, Jackie Earle Haley really nailed the character of Rorschach.
Patrick Wilson, the one acting as Nite Owl II, provided on of the best performances in the film. Nite Owl has a deeper story than other characters in the film. He is a out of shape, middle aged guy who lives by himself. Watching him go from zero to hero again is a satisfying experience.
Billy Crudup did a good job as Dr. Manhattan. Not only did he do a great narration of Dr. Manhattan's story, he also managed to make you want to hate him. You cannot help but think of Dr. Manhattan as a jerk. Good, because that's how Dr. Manhattan is supposed to be thought of.
Jeffery Dean Morgan is another actor that did an incredibly good job. He acts as the Comedian. Although he is a little too young to play the Comedian, he was able to portray the Comedian very accurately. In the movie, his performance was violent, vulgar, exciting and emotional at the same time. Very good.
Matthew Goode, the one who acts as Ozymandias, is alright, but I think they could have picked a better actor. He doesn't look like the Ozymandias from the comics in anyway, and they way he acted from the start is so sinister that anyone would guess that he was the one behind everything.
Malin Akerman is alright too, but she isn't able to compare to the other actors. She does have her roles, and her own story, but for most of the movie, she is treated like some insignificant character. Also, her average acting in the movie makes her even more forgettable.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
THE PROPS AND EFFECTS
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
While Watchmen is light on the action for an action movie, the props and special effects used are still spectacular to watch. A lot of care was taken to make sure that the props fit the 1985 setting of the movie, and the props stay as close to their comic book counterparts as possible.
For example, a 1985 version of several New York City streets were created for the movie. Nite Owl II's airship, Archie, is amazing to see on screen. The ship is cool in the comics, and it appears even better in the movie. Even though there were several changes made to it, I think these changes were for the better.
The blood and gore in the movie is also very realistic. The blood actually looks like blood. When bones snap, you can actually see the marrow within the bone. When limbs are cut off, arteries and veins can be seen. There is even a scene where Dr. Manhattan paints a ceiling with a man's digestive system. The amount of detail is incredible.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
THE FIGHT CHOREOGRAPHY
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The fights are done really well in this movie. The last movie Zack Snyder was working on was 300, and the fights in there are great as well, but those in Watchmen are better. The fights are slowed at just the right time, so that you can catch every detail on screen.
The fights are also more realistic than those in 300. Bones are broken, blood is spewed. For example, there is a scene where Nite Owl II breaks a thug's arm. It happens in slow motion. The bone snaps, it tears through the arm, and blood sprays out of the wound. Very, very good choreography.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
THE NEW ENDING
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Not going to spoil it for you, but I can assure you that it makes much more sense than the one in the comic, and I actually like this ending better than the original one. So what's the ending in the movie? Watch it yourself to find out :P
===============================================================================
I went to Temasek Poly this morning with my mother to submit my application. So now I'm officially part of the school!! Happy. I walked around the school a bit. I finally found the library. It just happens to be beside my faculty building.
The bridge area at the plaza is freakin cold when its raining man!! The wind is so strong and it is really cold when it rains. I can't imagine how the lecture theatres will be like when it rains. I think I need to bring a jacket to school everyday.
Or maybe I should bring two, so I can share with any girl that needs it. Of course it will be a pretty girl that I share my jacket with. How can I be so sure? Well, for me to lend a girl a jacket, she needs to be near me, and I will probably be sitting beside the hottest girl in the entire group :D
I really can't help it, but I'm constantly being approached by hot girls that I originally had no intention of talking to. Just look at me. Normal guy. And I hang out with goddesses like Kim and Yiling. And they talked to me first. Hmm. I think I have some passive skill that I am not aware of yet.
Anyways, I just realised that TP has quite an all star population. This year alone, Jay Chou, Lin Feng and Edison Chen are all going to study there. Just how amazing is that? :D
I went to watch Watchmen in the evening. Like I already mentioned above, awesome movie. I was offered free dinner, but I decided not to eat since my hunger was already satisfied by the sex worthy movie.
Ok, I'm done for today. Thanks for reading. [KOAS KW!!] Ending off, see you tomorrow.
